I wanted to compile a list of open mics in and around Western Massachusetts. They are great places to practice reading your work, meet others in the writing community and hear some great poetry and prose.
Straw Dog Writers Guild– From 7-9 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month at The Elevens in Northampton. There are 8 slots available, with each participant getting a five minute slot. They are pretty strict on the time, so make sure to time your piece beforehand! The readers are picked randomly out of a hat.
Northampton Poetry– Starting at 8 p.m. every Tuesday at The Hinge in Northampton. There is an open mic section followed by a feature poet. Come early to make sure you get a slot in the open mic, it is on a first come first serve basis. There is a $2 cover, but well worth it for the great energy and awesome poets!
Spoken Word Greenfield-Open mic sign-up starts at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month. There are ten slots available for 5-minute reads. There are also two features following the open-mic. Donations are recommended.
Spoken Word Wendell-Open mic sign-up starts at 7 p.m. on the last Monday of every month (March through October). There are ten slots available for 5-minute reads. There are also two features following the open-mic. Donations are recommended.
Unbuttoned: An Evening of Spoken Word– An open mic at Luthier’s in Easthampton. There are six slots available for the open mic (five minutes each) and one featured author. The event is held the second Thursday of every month from 7-8:30 p.m.
